How it compares

Automechanika Frankfurt is the brand's original show and the better trip for the European independent aftermarket: it drew more than 112,000 trade visitors in 2026, two thirds of them from abroad, and it runs every other year. Shanghai has more exhibitors, 7,465 against Frankfurt's 4,400, and most of them are Chinese manufacturers. That makes Shanghai the stronger choice for sourcing teams and distributors looking for suppliers, and Frankfurt the stronger one for suppliers looking for European distribution partners.

AAPEX in Las Vegas, with about 2,500 exhibitors, is where to go to sell into North American retail and warehouse distribution. Automechanika Dubai, with 2,273 exhibitors in 2025, is a shorter trip for buyers from the Middle East and Africa, and many of the suppliers they meet there are the same Chinese companies that take far larger stands in Shanghai.

Inside China, Messe Frankfurt's CAPAS Chengdu serves the southwestern market and AMR China in Beijing concentrates on maintenance and repair equipment. Both are narrower than Shanghai, which covers components, electronics, tyres, repair and customising in one place. Auto China is a vehicle launch show; it suits anyone following new models, while Shanghai is where the parts behind those models are bought and sold.

The right trip for parts buyers, distributors and OEM sourcing teams who want to meet China's automotive supply base, from tier-one systems to tyres and workshop tools, in a single week.

Who exhibits

Chinese manufacturers make up most of the floor, many of them focused on export, but the international tier-one presence is deep: Bosch, ZF, Valeo, Continental, Brembo, MANN+HUMMEL and Knorr-Bremse are all on this year's key exhibitor list. Carmakers including Li Auto, NIO and Stellantis exhibit for parts and supply-chain business. Autel and Launch anchor the diagnostics halls, tyre and wheel makers such as Doublestar and Dongfeng Wheel fill their own sector, and national pavilions from Germany, Japan, Korea, Türkiye and the US bring in overseas suppliers.

Automechanika Shanghai 2026

This year's show takes the whole venue, 390,000 square meters across 16 halls and the mezzanine, with about 7,600 exhibitors expected. One hall adds three new zones: an air, space and ground mobility area with drones and L4 autonomous vehicles, a quality hub built around the update to the automotive quality management standard and the AIAG Asia Quality Summit, and an automotive semiconductor zone covering the chip supply chain from design to packaging.

The New Energy & Connectivity sector grows again, and commercial vehicles are a main theme, with electric trucks, heavy-duty steering, transmissions and wheels on show. The conference program adds forums on exporting used cars to Africa and on electric logistics.

• The CEO Summit runs on the afternoon and evening before the halls open, at the InterContinental hotel on the NECC site. Senior executives come for it, so arriving a day early pays off.
• Senior buyers with full purchasing authority can apply to the Premium Buyers Club for a hotel room, a lounge with meeting rooms and exhibitor appointments arranged in advance. R&D engineers have a parallel Auto Tech Club.
• The two OEM matchmaking conferences on the first two afternoons put overseas carmaker purchasing teams and Chinese automakers in a room with suppliers. They are the most direct route to OEM business at the show.
• Stay near Hongqiao. The airport and railway station are one Metro Line 2 ride from the venue, while a taxi from Pudong airport takes around 90 minutes.

Exhibiting

Stand space is sold per square meter in two price zones, as raw space or as a furnished package for smaller stands, and a media package fee is compulsory. National pavilions run by Messe Frankfurt's offices in Germany, Japan, Korea, the US and other countries are the simplest way in for first-time overseas exhibitors. A stand pays off for suppliers who want to reach Chinese OEMs and the international distributors who come to source in volume.
