Its Toronto show serves automotive suppliers, aerospace manufacturers, machinery builders and job shops whose investment decisions run from cutting metal to measuring parts and managing production. In 2025, more than 9,000 manufacturing professionals attended a floor representing over 750 OEMs, distributors and brands.

The mix extends beyond equipment procurement. Innovation Park puts additive manufacturing and emerging technology alongside established machining suppliers, while the CTMA Pavilion and NGen Innovation Zone connect the floor to Canada’s tooling and advanced manufacturing networks. SME’s biennial event combines working machinery with education on industrial competitiveness, technology adoption and workforce development. For a plant weighing an automation cell against a machining upgrade, that breadth makes CMTS a useful place to compare the equipment and the surrounding process.

How it compares

  1. MMTSMontréal, every two years
  2. FABTECH CanadaToronto, every two years
  3. IMTSChicago, every two years
  4. This show: Canadian Manufacturing Technology Showevery two years

For a Canadian manufacturer, CMTS sits between a focused process show and the much larger machinery marketplace in Chicago. IMTS attracts more than 90,000 attendees and over 1,700 exhibitors, making it the stronger trip for an international equipment search across a wide supplier field. CMTS brings that discussion closer to Canadian buyers, distributors and industry associations, particularly when implementation in a Canadian plant matters as much as the machine specification.

FABTECH Canada addresses a different production brief. Metal forming, fabrication, welding and finishing are its core, so a sheet-metal or weld-shop investment fits naturally there. CMTS gives machining, metrology, automation, additive manufacturing and production software more room in the same visit. The two Toronto shows can serve different stages of the same capital program.

MMTS is the more concentrated route into Québec’s manufacturing community, including its aerospace and defense suppliers. Its 2026 show brought together 4,100 manufacturing professionals and 223 exhibitors in Montréal. CMTS is the broader national comparison, with Toronto’s automotive and job-shop demand alongside aerospace and advanced production. The choice turns on the market and processes a company needs to reach, as much as the size of the floor.

CMTS is the right trip for Canadian manufacturers comparing machining, automation and digital production as parts of one plant investment.

Who exhibits

Mazak and Makino anchor the machining side, while KUKA Robotics Canada and Schunk bring automation and workholding into the same discussion. Renishaw Canada and ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions cover measurement, and suppliers such as 3D Printing Canada add a route into additive production. Odoo and Acumatica show how far the floor extends into production management. The mix suits buyers assembling a manufacturing process across several suppliers.

Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show 2027

CMTS 2027 organizes its education around four distinct industrial priorities: aerospace and defense supply chains; AI, automation and additive production; markets, government support and workforce; and critical minerals and sustainable manufacturing. The approach connects equipment on the floor to procurement resilience and the economics of running a Canadian plant. The supplier mix includes established machining companies alongside robotics, measurement and production software, while participation packages add speaking and digital visibility to a physical stand.

  • For aerospace or defense procurement, prioritize the aerospace, space and supply-chain resilience program; for a shop-floor automation project, concentrate on the AI and smart manufacturing program.
  • Use SME+ for the CMTS exhibitor directory, education agenda and one-to-one meeting tools; these are grouped in the same event app.

Exhibiting

Gold packages combine a furnished stand with basic electricity, lead retrieval and digital outreach. Platinum adds sponsor recognition, a Tech Hub speaking opportunity and an upgraded digital presence. The offer suits equipment and software suppliers that can connect a demonstration to a specific Canadian production problem.
