In 2026 it drew 802 exhibitors from 36 countries and regions and 33,227 visits. Its strength is the combination of domestic market access and cross-border sourcing: API and excipient suppliers share the show with CDMOs, biopharma specialists, equipment makers and packaging companies.

Research and development accounted for 31% of the visitor job mix in 2025, compared with 13% for purchasing and procurement. That makes this a place to discuss technical development as well as supply agreements. The Japanese ingredient and excipient associations have their own pavilions, alongside national groups from China, Korea, Italy, India and Latvia. The 2027 expansion adds drug-discovery, venture and CDMO pavilions while strengthening primary packaging and drug delivery.

How it compares

  1. This show: CPHI Japan 2027Tokyo, 35K
  2. CPHI & PMEC ChinaShanghai, 150K
  3. CPHI EuropeFrankfurt, 62K

The closest domestic comparison is INTERPHEX Week Tokyo. Its manufacturing, packaging, biopharma and regenerative-medicine coverage makes it particularly useful for plant engineering, production technology and cell-therapy teams. CPHI Japan puts more of the conversation around ingredients, contract services and development partnerships, with Japanese procurement and R&D functions in the same event.

For a wider search across Chinese ingredient and machinery suppliers, CPHI & PMEC China offers a much larger sourcing field in Shanghai. Its 2027 program anticipates more than 3,900 exhibitors and spans excipients, finished dosage, clean technology and bioengineering. Tokyo is the more focused trip when the commercial objective is a Japanese customer, distributor or development partner.

CPHI Europe serves a global supplier and multinational partnership agenda, with established API, outsourcing and bioproduction zones alongside newer technology sectors. Japan earns its place on the calendar when domestic pharmaceutical relationships and the practical requirements of Japanese drug development matter more than the widest possible global supplier comparison.

CPHI Japan is the right trip for ingredient and contract-development businesses whose next customer, sourcing decision or development partner is in Japan.

Who exhibits

The 2026 floor put Almac, Agno Pharma, Recipharm and Quotient Sciences in outsourcing, while Olon and Infinium Pharmachem appeared among ingredient suppliers. Akesa and Asimov represented the biopharma side. Japanese companies and international suppliers sit alongside each other, so visitors can compare local development relationships with overseas production options. The mix extends into drug delivery and primary packaging, including West Pharmaceutical Services and Ypsomed. This gives formulation teams a view of both their ingredients and the systems used to deliver them.

CPHI Japan 2027

CPHI Japan 2027 expands into four East Halls and plans to host 900 suppliers. Drug-discovery, venture and CDMO pavilions put development partnerships alongside the established ingredients business. The packaging/DDS/formulation program adds primary packaging, delivery materials, testing equipment and an innovation showcase, with awards and presentations involving the Academy of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Japan (APSTJ). Pharma IT & Digital Health Expo and Medtec Japan remain concurrent events.

  • For a drug-discovery partnership, include the dedicated discovery networking lounge in your visit; its participants extend beyond suppliers to academia, ventures, CROs and venture capital.
  • API and excipient buyers should compare the Japanese association pavilions with the overseas country groups, which bring different supply networks into the same show.
  • Teams evaluating a delivery device should cover the expanded primary-packaging/DDS/formulation program as well as the concurrent Medtec show for device design and manufacturing.
