Its Spring 2025 show connected buyers with 320 vetted suppliers, with attendance and exhibition space both growing. Brands represented among visitors included Adidas, Patagonia, REI, Nike and Vuori.

The fair combines material selection with the testing and environmental questions that determine whether a fabric reaches production. AATCC demonstrations cover color evaluation and water resistance; the Trend Forum organizes fabric developments into 12 categories. Bodywear, cotton and wool have dedicated forums, alongside an Innovation Hub focused on regenerative design and circular material flows. Produced by RX in collaboration with PERFORMANCE DAYS, the spring show places lightweight, breathable and moisture-managing textiles beside the weather protection and stretch constructions needed across outdoor, activewear and everyday apparel.

How it compares

  1. This show: Functional Fabric Fair SpringPortland, 1,592
  2. PERFORMANCE DAYS Functional Fabric FairMunich, twice a year

Portland Spring is useful when a development team needs to compare performance materials with the people who make and finish them. The emphasis is on components and fabric behavior: a water-repellent treatment, an insulation or a seam-sealing tape can sit in the same sourcing discussion as the underlying knit or woven fabric.

PERFORMANCE DAYS Functional Fabric Fair offers the European route into this specialist market. Its 2026 figures are 472 exhibitors and 3,366 visitors, and its Munich spring and fall schedule serves both seasonal buying cycles. It is the stronger comparison for teams building European supplier relationships or seeking a larger performance-textile field.

The US alternatives change the sourcing window as well as the destination. Functional Fabric Fair Summer puts New York buyers closer to cooling technologies, UV protection and ultralight constructions. Functional Fabric Fair Fall returns to Portland with layering, insulation and fabrics for transitional weather. Spring earns its place when warm-weather materials, bodywear and outdoor performance need to be considered together, with sustainability education alongside the supplier conversations.

Portland Spring suits apparel teams choosing the fabrics, finishes and components that make an outdoor or activewear product perform.

Who exhibits

The recent exhibitor mix connects chemistry and textile construction. Dow presents repellency technologies, while Lenzing supplies fibers and Freudenberg Performance Materials spans technical textile applications. Fabric makers such as Everest and Kingwhale sit alongside Polartec, Pertex, zipper and trim suppliers, and testing specialists including bluesign and AATCC. That breadth lets a developer discuss the material, treatment and supporting component together through one product-development conversation.

Functional Fabric Fair Spring 2027

The 2027 fair keeps the Day 0 Sustainability Workshop as a separate learning stage before the exhibit hall and Expert Talks. Its Spring Spotlight brings outdoor activities, all-weather gear, bodywear and shapewear into focus. The sourcing program addresses the 2027/2028 seasons, with breathability, stretch, insulation and weatherproof technologies among the material priorities. Together, the workshop and show-floor sessions connect the environmental choices behind a textile with its performance in the finished garment.

  • Use the AATCC Textile Test Zone to discuss color evaluation and water resistance before comparing supplier performance claims.
  • Take bodywear and shapewear briefs to the Bodywear Forum, where swimwear, dancewear and sports-bra constructions can be assessed together.
  • Compare swatches in the Trend Forum with the cotton and wool forums, then use The Loop to continue sourcing the fabrics and accessories after Portland.

Exhibiting

The fair is geared to fabric mills and branded material technologies that can explain their place in a performance garment. Turnkey sustainable booth builds are included in stand packages, with reusable and recycled presentation materials central to the format. FB International handles the booth-service workflow, including furnishings, graphics, labor and freight. A supplier with a clear technical application has a useful audience in designers, product developers and sourcing managers.
