For a major machine-tool investment, BI-MU at fieramilano Rho offers a more concentrated view of metal cutting, forming and production systems. Its biennial October rhythm suits teams comparing machinery, robots and auxiliary technologies around a capital project. The 2024 show brought together more than 750 companies and about 35,000 trade operators. MECSPE gives a broader view of the suppliers and processes around that investment, including contract manufacturing, plastics and finishing.

SPS Italia is the annual May appointment in Parma for industrial automation and digital production. With 720 exhibitors and 37,528 attendees in 2026, its emphasis on drives, sensors, controls, industrial communication and software makes it a focused trip for automation engineers and factory-system integrators. MECSPE becomes more useful when the brief also includes the part itself: who can machine it, mold it, print it, inspect it or supply the materials.

The choice therefore follows the purchasing brief. BI-MU concentrates the machine-tool conversation, SPS Italia concentrates the automation architecture, and MECSPE connects those decisions to the wider manufacturing supply chain. Bologna is especially relevant to companies selling into, or sourcing from, Italy’s industrial districts and to teams evaluating several production routes for the same component.

MECSPE is the right trip for manufacturing teams that need to compare production technologies and find the subcontractors, tooling and process partners to put them to work.

Who exhibits

The recent exhibitor mix shows how widely MECSPE spans the factory. Emerson and SICK represent motion, fluid control and sensing, while WFL Millturn Technologies brings complete machining. Spanflug connects buyers with CNC component manufacturers, and 3DZ adds industrial 3D printing. These companies sit alongside plastics, mold, finishing and metrology specialists. The mix matters to a visitor choosing how a part will be made, inspected and moved through production, as well as which machine or software to buy.

MECSPE 2027

MECSPE 2027 marks the fair’s 25th show. The emphasis is on production efficiency, digital processes, energy, materials and the reorganization of supply chains. MECSPE LAB and the MECSPE Arena connect those themes with demonstrations and industry discussion. The next show follows a 2026 program that paired manufacturing technology with skills development, including a polymer additive manufacturing production unit, electronics production demonstrations and the Young & Career project. That combination gives the fair a practical focus on both equipment and the people needed to use it.
