PMI Global Summit 2026
PMI Global Summit brings project managers, PMO directors, portfolio leaders and executives into the same room as the software and training firms that support their work.

Detroit 2026 expects more than 5,000 attendees, with a program spanning technology, agile delivery, leadership and sustainability. Its audience crosses technology, government, healthcare, consulting and financial services, giving a project professional scope to compare how other sectors handle similar delivery problems.
The event grew out of PMI's founding seminar and has carried the Global Congress and Global Conference names. Today its center of gravity is professional development and the wider responsibilities of project leadership. Breakouts sit alongside mentoring, a career fair, product demonstrations and PMI's awards celebration. Certification holders can combine learning with professional development units, while PMO leaders can compare portfolio systems and implementation partners. The value of the trip lies in that combination of professional community and practical capability building.
How it compares

PMI Agile concentrates on agile software development and enterprise agility. It is the more focused conversation for agile coaches, delivery teams and transformation leaders who want to work through practices with peers facing similar organizational challenges. Global Summit brings those concerns into a wider discussion of project careers, portfolio decisions and leadership across industries.
APM Project Management Conference offers a smaller UK-centered setting in Manchester. More than 700 professionals attended in 2026, with project controls, risk, communication and analytics among the central topics. That makes it a useful choice for teams whose professional network and delivery environment are rooted in the UK. PMI's summit has a broader international community and a larger selection of software, consulting and education partners.
PMXPO provides virtual learning and certification development without a trip. It fits an individual who mainly needs fresh knowledge and PDUs. Global Summit makes more sense when the agenda also includes comparing portfolio tools, finding a training partner, exchanging delivery experiences with other sectors or developing relationships with PMI's professional community. For vendors, the distinction is equally clear: Detroit combines a conference audience with an exhibit hall, product theaters and structured sponsorship opportunities.
The right trip for project and PMO leaders who want professional development, portfolio-tool conversations and an international peer network in one setting.
Who exhibits
The partner mix connects portfolio software with the services and education needed to use it. Wrike and Planisware sit alongside Smartsheet, implementation consultancies and certification trainers such as PMtraining.com. Universities add another route into professional development. For a PMO, this creates a useful sequence of conversations about work management, portfolio governance and the skills required to support adoption. The exhibit hall is part of a broader conference program alongside the professional community gathering.

PMI Global Summit 2026
Detroit 2026 organizes its learning around Accelerate Career Growth, Get Future-Ready, Lead the Way and Make an Impact. The mainstage lineup includes neuroscientist Beau Lotto, TIME CEO Jessica Sibley with Rocket Companies founder Dan Gilbert, filmmaker Jimmy Chin and technology journalist Kara Swisher. Offsite learning adds Detroit projects to the classroom discussion. The program also brings a career fair, an executive summit and the Solutionaries screening, alongside the PMI Awards celebration and a separate PMIEF Gala.
- Use the First Timers Session to get oriented within PMI's professional community before the Welcome Reception.
- Compare portfolio software and implementation partners while the exhibit hall is active; Friday is its final day, while Saturday concentrates on learning and the closing keynote.
- Choose a focus track according to your role: career progression, future-ready skills, leadership or project impact. Combine that with sessions relevant to your certification renewal.
- Detroit's offsite learning excursions connect the conference discussion with real projects; use them if you want to see delivery outside a classroom.
Exhibiting
Booths bundle conference registrations with exhibit hall passes and basic furniture. The commercial audience spans portfolio software, consulting, training and higher education, so a stand works best when the demonstration addresses a recognizable project or PMO problem. Product theater presentations offer a separate way to explain a solution. Total booth and sponsorship investment determines recognition level; hosted exhibitor functions require PMI approval.
