Competitive gaming and creator culture shared the floor: Call of Duty, Dota 2 and F1 Sim Racing sat alongside appearances by the Bov Boys and members of the Sidemen. The crowd came to watch, play and meet the people behind the streams.

The expo is part of that festival experience. Gaming hardware, playable games, brand activations and indie developers reach an audience that also spends time at cosplay competitions and creator stages. For publishers and consumer brands, Birmingham offers a setting for hands-on demonstrations and community engagement. The return in 2027 establishes a UK stop for the DreamHack circuit, with an announced mix of the Expo, Creator Hub, Indie Playground, PC Freeplay and arcade games.

How it compares

  1. This show: DreamHack BirminghamBirmingham
  2. gamescomCologne, 357K

DreamHack Stockholm is the closest comparison for brands considering the same festival format in another market. Its November event at Stockholmsmässan combines esports with a Community Hall devoted to meet-and-greets, tabletop gaming, Artist Alley and the Trade Zone. Stockholm makes sense for a Swedish audience or an activation built around those communities; Birmingham brings the DreamHack format to the UK and a creator scene that drew the Bov Boys and Sidemen in 2026.

For a wider publisher and hardware showcase, gamescom in Cologne has a different scale and purpose. The annual August fair serves trade and private visitors and recorded 357,000 visitors and 1,568 exhibitors in 2025. Its international software and hardware mix makes it relevant when distribution, industry contacts and a broad release showcase matter. Birmingham is a more focused choice for a UK fan activation tied to esports, creators and playable experiences. A brand deciding between them should distinguish the audience it wants to reach from the event format it wants to inhabit.

DreamHack Birmingham suits gaming brands and developers that want UK fans to play, watch and interact with their products alongside esports and creators.

Who exhibits

The 2026 floor brought Red Bull, DHL, Samsung and Formula 1 together with local and international developers. That mix shows how the expo fits the festival: a consumer technology brand or partner activation can sit alongside a playable game. Artist Alley, Trade Zone and Indie Playground provide distinct routes into the event for creative sellers and smaller studios. The commercial opportunity is audience participation, with demonstrations and experiences sharing attention with competitive gaming and creator appearances.

DreamHack Birmingham 2027

DreamHack Birmingham returns to the NEC in 2027 after a UK debut that combined international esports with a large British creator lineup. The announced festival areas include Creator Hub, Indie Playground, cosplay, PC Freeplay and an arcade, alongside the Expo. DreamHack Quest adds a festival-wide game built around completing challenges for rewards. Community Power Up gives participating communities a presence on the show floor.

  • For game discovery, make Indie Playground a separate stop from the Expo: it is the festival’s dedicated setting for independent games.
  • For creator activity, distinguish Creator Hub from Meet & Greet and DreamHack Stage; they serve different parts of the fan experience.
